Below you will find guidance on how to use each function in the AMFG Connect for the Materialise Magics Integration. Please make sure you have completed the steps in the AMFG Connect (Desktop Agent) Installation Guide article first to get the AMFG Connect app installed.

Note: While the AMFG Connect is performing an operation in Magics, it is best not to use the keyboard and mouse. The integration uses robotization to emulate a user's actions in Magics.

Opening a Single Part

Steps

  1. In the AMFG Management Console, find the project your part belongs to

  2. Open the Project Details Page

  3. Click the dropdown for the part and choose ‘Open in 3D Printing Software

Expected outcome

  1. A notification in the Management Console will appear to confirm that the request has been sent to the AMFG Connect

  2. AMFG Connect will display a notification to confirm that the request has been received

  3. Magics will open

  4. The Mesh Workspace will be automatically selected

  5. The open part window will open

  6. AMFG Connect will then use the window to select the part and open it

  7. AMFG Connect will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed

Opening a New Build

Steps

  1. Navigate to an AMFG build with parts in it and no associated build file

  2. Click the folder icon next to the build ID (note that it is possible to send to Magics only parts that have not yet been produced, i.e., post-production/ post-processing not completed)

Expected outcome

  1. A green toast notification on the management console will appear to confirm that the request has been sent to the AMFG Connect

  2. AMFG Connect will display a notification to confirm the request has been received

  3. Magics will open

  4. The Mesh Workspace will be automatically selected

  5. The ‘open window’ will be opened

  6. AMFG Connect will then use the window to select the build platform and open it

  7. The ‘add parts’ window will be opened

  8. The items will be opened by AMFG Connect

  9. AMFG Connect will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed

Opening an Existing Build

The steps for opening an existing build are the same as those above for a New Build, except that only the build platform is opened (which already has the parts in it).

Saving a Build (Exporting a Build from Magics to AMFG)

Steps

With Magics open on the scene you would like to export:

  1. Open the Windows tray (on your taskbar)

  2. Right-click the AMFG Connect icon (AMFG logo)

  3. Click "Export Build"

  4. Select the BuildID in the drop-down list (the list contains the BuildIDs of all currently opened builds)

Expected Outcome

  1. AMFG Connect will confirm the command

  2. AMFG Connect will save the build in Magics

  3. AMFG Connect will notify the user that the request has been completed

  4. The build will now have a .magics build file attached against the build file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g. BU-00154.magics)

  5. The build will now have a .json file attached to the build file section on the cloud, named after the build ID (e.g. BU-00154_config.json)

  6. The build will now have a .3mf file attached to the slice file section on the cloud, named after the build ID (e.g. BU-00154.3mf)

  2. Add some additional items to the build in AMFG

  3. Open the build in Magics from AMFG (the steps for opening an existing build with new parts are the same as those for an existing build)
