Below you will find guidance on how to use each function in the Desktop Agent for the Materialise Magics Integration. Please make sure you have completed the steps in the AMFG Desktop Agent Installation Guide (V0.6.0 - V0.6.2) article first to get the AMFG Desktop Agent installed.

Note: While the Desktop Agent is performing an operation in Magics, it is best to not use the keyboard and mouse. The integration uses robotization to emulate a user's actions in Magics.

Opening a Single Part

Steps

  1. In the AMFG Management Console, find the project your part belongs to

  2. Open the Project Details Page

  3. Click the dropdown for the part and choose ‘Open in 3D Printing Software

Expected outcome

  1. A notification in the Management Console will appear to confirm the request has been sent to the Desktop Agent

  2. The Desktop Agent will display a notification to confirm the request has been received

  3. Magics will open

  4. The Mesh Workspace will be automatically selected

  5. The open part window will open

  6. The Desktop Agent will then use the window to select the part and open it

  7. The Desktop Agent will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed

Opening a New Build

Steps

  1. Navigate to an AMFG build with parts in it and no associated build file

  2. Click the folder icon next to the build ID (note that it is possible to send to Magics only parts that have not yet been produced, i.e. post-production/ post-processing not completed)

Expected outcome

  1. A green toast notification on the management console will appear to confirm the request has been sent to the Desktop Agent

  2. The Desktop Agent will display a notification to confirm the request has been received

  3. Magics will open

  4. The Mesh Workspace will be automatically selected

  5. The ‘open window’ will be opened

  6. The Desktop Agent will then use the window to select the build platform and open it

  7. The ‘add parts’ window will be opened

  8. The items will be opened in by the Desktop Agent

  9. The Desktop Agent will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed

Saving a Build (Exporting a Build from Magics to AMFG)

Steps

With Magics open on the scene you would like to export:

  1. Open the Windows tray (on your taskbar)

  2. Right-click the AMFG Desktop Agent (AMFG logo)

  3. Click "Export Build"

Expected Outcome

  1. The Desktop Agent will confirm the command

  2. The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics

  3. The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed

  4. The build will now have a .magics build file attached against the build file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g. BU-00154.magics)

  5. The build will now have a .json file attached to the build file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g. BU-00154_config.json)

  6. The build will now have a .3mf file attached to the slice file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g. BU-00154.3mf)

Opening an Existing Build

The steps for opening an existing build are the same as that for a new build, except that only the build platform is opened (which already has the parts in it).

Saving a Build With Items Removed (Exporting from Magics to AMFG)

Steps

With Magics open on the scene you would like to export (after you have opened a build from AMFG in Magics):

  1. In Magics, delete some items from the build platform.

  2. Open the tray

  3. Right-click the desktop agent

  4. Click Export Build

Expected Outcome

  1. The Desktop Agent will confirm the command

  2. The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics

  3. The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed

  4. In AMFG, the list of assigned items against the builds will not contain the removed items.

  5. In AMFG, the unassigned parts list will contain the removed items.

Opening an Existing Build with New Parts Added

Steps

  1. In AMFG, navigate to a build with parts in it and associated .magics, .json and .3mf file (a build that has already been exported from Magics to AMFG using the Desktop Agent).

  2. Add some additional items to the build in AMFG

  3. Open the build in Magics from AMFG (the steps for opening an existing build with new parts are the same as those for an existing build)

Expected outcome

  1. A green toast notification on the management console will appear to confirm the request has been sent to the Desktop Agent

  2. The Desktop Agent will display a notification to confirm the request has been received

  3. Magics will open the previous build

  4. The ‘add parts’ window will be opened

  5. The new items will be opened in by the Desktop Agent

  6. The Desktop Agent will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed.

Saving a Build With Unrecognised Items Added

Steps

With Magics open on the scene you would like to export (from a build already opened in Magics from AMFG):

  1. Drag a model into the Magics build from your desktop

  2. Open the tray

  3. Right-click the desktop agent

  4. Click Export Build

Expected Outcome

  1. The Desktop Agent will confirm the command

  2. The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics

  3. The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed

  4. In AMFG, the list of assigned items against the builds will not contain the unrecognized items.

Saving a Build With A Cut Item

Steps

With Magics open on the scene you would like to export:

  1. Use the cut tool in Magics to cut an item into many pieces.

  2. Open the tray

  3. Right-click the desktop agent

  4. Click Export Build

Expected Outcome

  1. The Desktop Agent will confirm the command

  2. The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics

  3. The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed

  4. In AMFG, the list of assigned items against the builds will not contain additional items
