Below you will find guidance on how to use each function in the Desktop Agent for the Materialise Magics Integration. Please make sure you have completed the steps in the AMFG Desktop Agent Installation Guide (V0.6.0 - V0.6.2) article first to get the AMFG Desktop Agent installed.
Note: While the Desktop Agent is performing an operation in Magics, it is best to not use the keyboard and mouse. The integration uses robotization to emulate a user's actions in Magics.
Opening a Single Part
Steps
In the AMFG Management Console, find the project your part belongs to
Open the Project Details Page
Click the dropdown for the part and choose ‘Open in 3D Printing Software’
Expected outcome
A notification in the Management Console will appear to confirm the request has been sent to the Desktop Agent
The Desktop Agent will display a notification to confirm the request has been received
Magics will open
The Mesh Workspace will be automatically selected
The open part window will open
The Desktop Agent will then use the window to select the part and open it
The Desktop Agent will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed
Opening a New Build
Steps
Navigate to an AMFG build with parts in it and no associated build file
Click the folder icon next to the build ID (note that it is possible to send to Magics only parts that have not yet been produced, i.e. post-production/ post-processing not completed)
Expected outcome
A green toast notification on the management console will appear to confirm the request has been sent to the Desktop Agent
The Desktop Agent will display a notification to confirm the request has been received
Magics will open
The Mesh Workspace will be automatically selected
The ‘open window’ will be opened
The Desktop Agent will then use the window to select the build platform and open it
The ‘add parts’ window will be opened
The items will be opened in by the Desktop Agent
The Desktop Agent will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed
Saving a Build (Exporting a Build from Magics to AMFG)
Steps
With Magics open on the scene you would like to export:
Open the Windows tray (on your taskbar)
Right-click the AMFG Desktop Agent (AMFG logo)
Click "Export Build"
Expected Outcome
The Desktop Agent will confirm the command
The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics
The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed
The build will now have a .magics build file attached against the build file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g.
BU-00154.magics
)The build will now have a .json file attached to the build file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g.
BU-00154_config.json
)The build will now have a .3mf file attached to the slice file section on the cloud named after the build ID (e.g.
BU-00154.3mf

Opening an Existing Build
The steps for opening an existing build are the same as that for a new build, except that only the build platform is opened (which already has the parts in it).
Saving a Build With Items Removed (Exporting from Magics to AMFG)
Steps
With Magics open on the scene you would like to export (after you have opened a build from AMFG in Magics):
In Magics, delete some items from the build platform.
Open the tray
Right-click the desktop agent
Click Export Build
Expected Outcome
The Desktop Agent will confirm the command
The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics
The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed
In AMFG, the list of assigned items against the builds will not contain the removed items.
In AMFG, the unassigned parts list will contain the removed items.
Opening an Existing Build with New Parts Added
Steps
In AMFG, navigate to a build with parts in it and associated .magics, .json and .3mf file (a build that has already been exported from Magics to AMFG using the Desktop Agent).
Add some additional items to the build in AMFG
Open the build in Magics from AMFG (the steps for opening an existing build with new parts are the same as those for an existing build)
Expected outcome
A green toast notification on the management console will appear to confirm the request has been sent to the Desktop Agent
The Desktop Agent will display a notification to confirm the request has been received
Magics will open the previous build
The ‘add parts’ window will be opened
The new items will be opened in by the Desktop Agent
The Desktop Agent will show a notification to confirm that the action has been completed.
Saving a Build With Unrecognised Items Added
Steps
With Magics open on the scene you would like to export (from a build already opened in Magics from AMFG):
Drag a model into the Magics build from your desktop
Open the tray
Right-click the desktop agent
Click Export Build
Expected Outcome
The Desktop Agent will confirm the command
The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics
The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed
In AMFG, the list of assigned items against the builds will not contain the unrecognized items.
Saving a Build With A Cut Item
Steps
With Magics open on the scene you would like to export:
Use the cut tool in Magics to cut an item into many pieces.
Open the tray
Right-click the desktop agent
Click Export Build
Expected Outcome
The Desktop Agent will confirm the command
The Desktop Agent will save the build in Magics
The Desktop Agent will notify the user the request has been completed
In AMFG, the list of assigned items against the builds will not contain additional items
