Configuring the Integration between AMFG Connect (Desktop Agent) and Materialise Magics

This is a guide on how to configure integration with Materialise Magics 26.01 and above (earlier versions are not supported)

Written by Yordan Mitrev

After installing AMFG Connect by following the steps in the article: AMFG Connect (Desktop Agent) Installation Guide, you need to perform some configuration in the AMFG Management Console, AMFG Connect, and Materialise Magics to set up the integration.

Management Console Configuration

1. Add Build Platforms

In order to open builds in Magics, you need to store some build platforms in the AMFG Management Console. These should be a .magics file containing an empty scene for the build platform’s machine. See the video: Create Build Platform for a guide on how to create build platforms in Magics.
(You can use this sample build platform file for reference - Example Magics Platform)

How to upload a build platform to the AMFG Management console:

  1. Go to Production

  2. Go to Machine Configuration

  3. Click the name of the desired build platform

  4. Click Browse File under “Materialise Magics” near “Platform File” and find the .magics file

  5. Click Save

2. Log in to AMFG Connect

When you launch the AMFG Connect app, you will be asked to log in. Enter the following and click Login:

  • URL - this is the address of the AMFG environment your application is running on:

  • Login - This is the user email address you use to log in to your AMFG management console. If you are having difficulty logging in, then make sure that there are no spaces appended to your email address.

  • Password - the password you use to log in to the AMFG Management Console

Once logged in, the settings page will appear. Set the following configuration and click 'Save' once done:

  • Synchronise builds - When this option is checked, builds and the parts within them will automatically be synced to AMFG Connect. If unchecked, these will be downloaded when the user opens a build. Note that depending on the number of builds and their contents, AMFG Connect may take some time to synchronize.
If this option isn’t checked and you try to open a build, AMFG Connect will download the build first. This will take some time, depending on the contents of the build.

  • Synchronise project parts - When this option is on, parts that are in an Order but not yet assigned to a build will be automatically synchronized by AMFG Connect. If off, these will be downloaded when the user opens a part from an Order. Note that, depending on the number of parts in the Order, the AMFG Connect may take some time to synchronize.
If this option isn’t checked and you try to open a part, AMFG Connect will download the part first. This will take some time, depending on the size of the part.

  • Synchronise folder - choose a location to synchronize the files for AMFG Connect. (An empty folder must be chosen for this*)

  • 3D Printing Software - select the version of Magics you will be using.

  • Magics UI Language - the language settings of your Materialise Magics software. Currently available: English, French, and German.
Please note that shortcuts for French/German are different. You can find the right shortcuts in C:\Program Files\AMFG\AMFGConnect\config\automation.magics.config.ini.

Once these steps are completed, AMFG Connect will begin synchronizing. A notification will appear in the bottom right of your screen when synchronization is complete. Do not close AMFG Connect whilst this synchronization is running***

Please refer to the "AMFG Connect Configuration" video guide for further assistance.

Materialise Magics Configuration

1. Configuring Keybinds in Magics

AMFG Connect automates the events in Magics using robotization, which inputs mouse movements and keystrokes to use the UI automatically. For this to work correctly, some keyboard shortcuts need to be set up in Magics.

  1. Open Materialise Magics

  2. Under ‘Create new’ click 'Mesh'

Click Mesh on the first window that opens after starting Magics.

  3. When Magics opens a new window, press Alt+C on your keyboard to open the ‘Customize UI Commands’ window.

  4. Under Layout, select ‘part preparation (mesh)

    Magics Customize UI Commands

  5. Use the search box to find the commands listed below, and click in the blank space next to them to define the following key binds.

1 is the search box, 2 is where you click to change a specific shortcut

    1. Add Component (“Import Part” in Magics 27.01) - CTRL + L

    2. Open - CTRL + O

  6. Under Layout, select ‘Platform Preparation

  7. Use the search box to find the commands listed below, and click in the blank space next to them to define the following key binds.

    1. Add part (“Import Part” in Magics 27.01) - CTRL + ] (CTRL+ J for German and French versions)

    2. Save Scene As - CTRL + [ (CTRL + Q for German and French versions)

    3. Save Project As - CTRL + K

  8. Click 'Ok'

  9. Close Magics

Note: if the default key binds are not accessible on your keyboard (they were designed for a UK or US QWERTY keyboards), then you can change them by modifying the file '%appdata%\AMFG\AMFG Connect\config\automation.magics.config.ini'. The existing key binds are ctrl (indicated by ^) followed by a key.

Please refer to the "Configuring Keybinds" video guide for further assistance.
